Summer art books

I have been gathering supplies and books to experiment with new techniques this summer.
Here are some of the most recent books I received:

Daring adventures in paint
Mati Rose McDonough
Daring Adventures in Paint: Find Your Flow, Trust Your Path, and Discover Your Authentic Voice-Techniques for Painting, Sketching, and Mixed Media
I came across Mati Rose's artwork after reading Creative Pilgrimage
I enjoy her style of painting and colour choices. Her book is great for beginners, the directions are easy to follow. It will definitely inspire me for my own art or for my teaching.

Art at the speed of life
Pam Carriker

Art at the Speed of Life: motivation + inspiration for making mixed-media art every day
One of the best review about this book is by Joanne Sharpe. So many NEW techniques to try!

Surface treatment workshop: 45 mixed-media techniques
Darlene Olivia McElroy and Sandra Duran-Wilson
Surface Treatment Workshop: Explore 45 Mixed-Media Techniques

I own already a book on Image Transfer by the same authors. This one is as fantastic. I like the fact that the authors tell us how archival each technique is. Some of the techniques were not new to me but it's a great compilation of techniques in one book.

Fish and zentangle

For my grades 4, 5, 6 at Kanata Montessori school, I made a paper maché fish using recycled materials: a plastic juice bottle, empty paper rolls and cardboard from a cereal box. I decorated it with a marker inspired by this post,  glued circles cut from the inside of envelopes I received by post mail  (hydro, insurance, credit card bills envelopes have lovely patterns inside) and attached beads with wire.
Tomorrow I will upload some of my student's projects.

Tree of Life

After taking workshops this winter with Holly Dean, see this post, I started this mixed-media. My first intention was to make a sea scene. I engraved a fish, pressed sea shell stamps in modelling paste on the background, added layers of colours....And the theme changed... I was no longer creating a sea scene....So much fun experimenting!

Charles' garden

This is my favourite time of the year in the garden, when the peonies are blooming. My husband's garden is a constant source of inspiration. Charles painted one of the bench he built few years ago. I really like this blue colour...

H'ARt of Ottawa

I went to a wonderful art show organized by H'ARt of Ottawa on May 25th. H'ARt of Ottawa was celebrating 10 years of programming.
More info at www.hartofottawa.ca

I bought the painting (below) because I liked its vibrant colours and the freedom of the brush strokes.
